Josh Gibson fired a 2-under-par 70 at Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek to lead the Hope College men's golf team to victory in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Jamboree for the second time this season.
The sophomore from Grandville, Michigan (Grandville HS) fueled the Flying Dutchmen's winning total of 294 on Tuesday. Gibson is pictured at right.
Hope finished one stroke ahead of runner-up Kalamazoo to extend its lead to five strokes over Kalamazoo in the overall standings after 36 holes. The Flying Dutchmen are eight strokes ahead of third-place Trine and 12 up on fourth-place Calvin after two rounds.
Senior Winton Munch of Traverse City, Michigan (Central) chipped in a 74 for Hope to tie for sixth place.
Sophomore Ben Kramer of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake) tied for ninth with a 75.
Sophomore Andrew Goble of Brighton, Michigan (Brighton) rounded out Hope's scoring with a 13th-place 76.
Junior Kade Hoeksema of Byron Center, Michigan (South Christian) shot an 81.
Hope returns to action on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 16-17 at the 36-hole Adrian Irish Hills Invitational at Grande Golf Club in Jackson, Michigan.
