Andrew Goble got off to a fast start to the 2016 season for the Hope College men's golf team.
The sophomore from Brighton, Michigan (Brighton HS) fired a 1-under-par 71 at Bedford Valley Country on Friday in Battle Creek to tie for the first-round lead at the Olivet Collins Memorial. Goble equaled the 71 posted by Kalamazoo's Nick Ludka.

Hope finished with a team score of 291 and trails first-round leader Kalamazoo by one stroke. The Flying Dutchmen are four strokes ahead of third-place Madonna. The 36-hole tournament resumes on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 8 a.m. Eastern.
Senior Winton Munch of Traverse City, Michigan (Central) is tied for fourth after carding a 72.
Sophomores Josh Gibson of Grandville, Michigan (Grandville) and Ben Kramer of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake) both shot 74s for 11th place and rounded out Hope's scoring.
Junior Kade Hoeksema of Byron Center, Michigan (South Christian) had an 81.
