The Hope College women's swimming & diving team placed first in five events en route to a second-place finish at the Michigan-Illinois Quad on Saturday at Wheaton, Illinois.
The Flying Dutch totaled 492 points. Wheaton (552) won and was followed by Hope, Kalamazoo (423) and Lake Forest (205).
Junior Elizabeth Fris of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS) clocked the top times in the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyle. She had swims of 5 minutes, 21.55 seconds and 11:00.94, respectively.
Senior Molly Meyer of South Bend, Indiana (John Adams) took first in the 200 freestyle at 1:58.58 and the 200 backstroke at 2:09.40.
Meyer also swam the second leg of the victorious 400 freestyle relay that clocked a swim of 3:41.19. She was joined by junior Chloe Palajac of Dearborn, Michigan (Dearborn), sophomore Sydney Asselin of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian) and sophomore Abigail Brinks of Commerce Township, Michigan (Walled Lake Northern).
Freshman Erin Emmert of Grand Blanc, Michigan (Flint Powers Catholic) posted the second-fastest performance in the 200 butterfly at 2:14.08.
Asselin came in third in the 50 freestyle at 25.32.
Palajac took third in the 200 individual medley at 2:14.20, while freshman Paula Nolte of Elmhurst, Illinois (York Community) was fourth at 2:16.45.
Palajac also finished third in the 100 freestyle at 55.22. Asselin was fourth at 55.76.
Slenk recorded a fourth-place effort in the 200 breaststroke of 2:34.66.
Nolte was fourth in the 200 backstroke at 2:14.97.
Hope returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 21 when the Flying Dutch host Albion for a MIAA dual meet at Holland Community Aquatic Center.
