The Hope College volleyball team goes for its second Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament title in a row on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Calvin College. The Flying Dutch face the regular-season and third-ranked Calvin Knights.
The MIAA Tournament champion receives the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Championship. The national tournament field is announced on Monday at 12:30 p.m. on NCAA.com.
Hope is bidding for its 14th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and its 10th in a row. The current run includes a national championship in 2014.
Second-seeded Hope (19-10 overall) advanced from Friday's semifinals with a 3-0 win against Saint Mary's College. Top-seeded Calvin (25-3) defeated Albion College 3-0 on Friday.
The Flying Dutch are making their 17th trip to an MIAA Tournament championship match and their 12th in a row. They previously won the MIAA Tournament in 2016 at Calvin College and 2000 at Hope College. The Flying Dutch are 29-16 all-time in MIAA Tournament play.
Hope dropped both regular-season meetings with Calvin: in four sets on September 23 at DeVos Fieldhouse and in three sets on October 24 at Calvin. The Flying Dutch trail in the all-time series 67-30.
In the 2016 MIAA Tournament title match, Hope knocked off then No. 1-ranked Calvin in five sets on the Knights' home floor. It was the only loss of the season for Calvin, which went on to claim the national title.
