Box Score The Hope College women's tennis team swung a nationally ranked showdown its way with a timely surge in singles play.
The 34th-ranked Flying Dutch topped No. 24 Kenyon, Ohio 6-3 on Friday at DeWitt Tennis Center by winning five of the six singles flights.
Hope evened its overall record at 1-1.
At No. 1 singles, senior Nancy Benda of Birmingham, Michigan (Seaholm HS) topped Diana Aboubakara 7-5, 6-4.
Benda also teamed with freshman Quincey Glupker of Grandville, Michigan (Grandville) at No. 1 doubles for an 8-4 win against Aboubakara and Mara Kaspers.
Glupker claimed a 7-5, 4-6, 10-7 victory against Kaspers at No. 5 singles.
Other singles winners for the Flying Dutch:
No. 2: freshman Amanda Bandrowski of Traverse City, Michigan (St. Francis) 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 vs. Maggie Sweeney.
No. 3: freshman Claire Hallock of Lakeland, Florida (Harrison Center) 6-1, 6-0 vs. Jenna Murray.
No. 4: sophomore Taylor LaBarge of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville) 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 vs. Annie Reiner.
Hope's next match is Friday, Feb. 17 at No. 20 Case Western Reserve, Ohio.
