Hope College's Brandon Wolliston set a indoor school record in the 400 meters at the University of Chicago Indoor Track & Field Windy City Invitational on Saturday.
The junior from Remus, Michigan (Chippewa Hills HS) posted a run of 50.19 seconds in the finals. He surpassed Matt Ruff's 2015 mark of 50.25.
The Flying Dutchmen finished third in the 12-team meet with 77 points. Hope placed behind Chicago (117.5) and Valparaiso (84).
Senior Cameron Jones of Holland, Michigan (Black River) took second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:57.03. Junior Peter Timperman of Lafayette, Indiana (Faith Christian) was fifth at 2:03.81.
Freshman Joshua Izenbart of Glenwood, Illinois (Homewood-Flossmoor) recorded a runner-up effort in the high jump of 1.97 meters (6 feet, 5 ½ inches).
Izenbart also came in second in the heptathlon with a total of 3,750 points.
Sophomore Justin Freeman of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa) posted a third-place run in the 60-meter championship race of 7.14 seconds.
Hope recorded three of the top seven performances in the 3,000 meters: senior Julian Morrison of Aurora, Illinois (Waubonsie Valley) in third at 8:56.42, junior Benjamin Pederson of Mount Prospect, Illinois (Prospect) in fourth at 8:58.36, and junior Jacob Jansen of Johnston, Iowa (Johnston) in seventh at 9:06.70.
Pederson took fourth in the 1-mile run of 4:23.88.
The Flying Dutchmen were fifth in the 4x400 relay. Wolliston, junior Matt Ruff of Wayne, Illinois (Wheaton Academy), junior Mitchell DePree of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian), and Jones went 3:32.48.
Hope came in sixth in the distance medley relay. Freshman Brenden Jones of Holland, Michigan (Black River), sophomore Prescott Binder of Zeeland, Michigan (Zeeland East), Timperman and freshman Ty Hergenreder of Davison, Michigan (Goodrich) had a time of 11:14.92.
Sophomore Tucker Gibbons of Fowlerville, Michigan (Fowlerville) placed sixth in the long jump at 6.07 meters (19-9).
Sophomore Louis Kopp of Spring, Texas (Providence Classical) finished seventh in the triple jump at 12.94 meters (42-5).
Sophomore Tyler Webb of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Grandville) was eighth in the shot put at 12.64 meters (41-5).
Hope's next meet is Friday, Feb. 17 at the Grand Valley State University Tune-up.
