The Hope College men's and women's outdoor track & field teams braved a brisk afternoon at Buys Athletic Fields to compete against Calvin College on Friday.
Hope recorded 16 first-place performances out of 36 events amid temperatures that started in the low-40 degrees. The Flying Dutchmen won five events.
Senior Brandon Wolliston of Remus, Michigan (Chippewa Hills) sprinted to victory in the 400 meters with a time of 50.35 seconds and anchored the first-place 4x100 relay.
Freshman Joshua Izenbart on Glenwood, Illinois (Homewood-Flossmoor), senior Ben Seppa of Jackson, Michigan (Jackson), freshman Adam Howard of Jacksonville, Illinois (Routt Catholic) and Wolliston clocked a run of 44.43 seconds.
Seppa took first in the 100 meters with a time of 11.12 seconds.
Howard won the 200 meters in 22.96 seconds.
In the triple jump, sophomore Tucker Gibbons of Fowlerville, Michigan (Fowlerville) recorded a first-place leap of 12.70 meters (41-8).
The Flying Dutch were led by two first-place efforts apiece from junior Alison Rich of Haslett, Michigan (Haslett) and junior Rachel Satkiewicz of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan (Seaholm).
Rich won the long jump with a leap of 5.14 meters (16 feet, 10 inches) and the javelin with a toss of 35.60 meters (116-9).
Satkiewicz raced to victories in the 100 meters at 26.51 seconds and the 400 meters at 1:01.01.
Freshman Hannah Huizen of Jenison, Michigan (Jenison) raced to a winning 100-meter time of 13.39.
Satkiewicz teamed with junior Hannah Howard of Jacksonville, Illinois (Routt Catholic), freshman Nicole Kruithof of Byron Center, Michigan (South Christian) and sophomore Jessica Korte of Washington, Michigan (Cairo American) for a winning 4x100 relay time of 52.06 seconds.
Satkiewicz also anchored the first-place 4x400 relay with freshman Chelsea Miskelley of Holland, Michigan (Black River), Webb, and Kruithof that won with a run of 4:28.17
In the 800 meters, junior Rachael Webb of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Grandville) took first with a 1run of 2:21.92.
In the 3,000 meters, senior Jessica Gaines of Sterling Heights, Michigan (Utica Academy) clocked a top performance of 10:41.53.
The Flying Dutch also recorded the best efforts in two field events. In the hammer throw, junior Rachel Alfond of Snohomish, Washington (Archbishop Murphy) went 37.84 meters (124-2), while, in the triple jump, freshman Addyson Gerig of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa) leapt 9.48 meters (31-1).
The meet winner was the Hope women and Calvin men with a combined total of 180 points. The Hope men and Calvin women had a combined score of 125 points.
