Women's Tennis Tops Alma, Stays Tied Atop MIAA Standings With Albion

Playing for the fourth time in four days, the 23rd-ranked Hope College women's tennis team did not yield one game in five flights en route to a 9-0 win at Alma on Monday.

The Flying Dutch improved their record to 13-3 overall and 4-0 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play. They are tied for first place with Albion.

Hope won 6-0, 6-0 in three singles flights.

Freshman Liz Pniewski of Lowell, Michigan (Grand Rapids Catholic Central HS) had a hand in two of the shutouts.

Pniewski, pictured, won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles and 8-0 at No. 3 doubles with junior Natalie Rahrig of Fort Wayne, Indiana (Bishop Luers).

Other 6-0, 6-0 singles winners were freshman Amanda Bandrowski of Traverse City, Michigan (St. Francis) at No. 2 singles and sophomore Taylor LaBarge of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville) at No. 4 singles.

At No. 3 doubles, senior Christin Drozd of Allegan, Michigan (Allegan) and freshman Claire Hallock of Lakeland, Florida (Harrison Center) were victorious 8-0.

Hope returns to action on Saturday, April 15 with an 11 a.m. MIAA match at Trine.
