Nicholas Salomon raced to a runner-up, 800-meter performance at the Grand Valley State University Al Owens Classic this weekend.
The senior from Troy, Michigan (Detroit Jesuit) posted a second-place time of 800 meters of 1 minute, 51.96 seconds.
Salomon was edged at the finish line by Brent Rodden of Siena Heights, who went 1:51.22.
The Flying Dutchmen had a 14th-place score of 10.33 points.
It was a 24-team meet with NCAA Division II & III competitors, as well as NAIA teams.
Hope's 4x400 relay of freshman Joshua Izenbart of Glenwood, Illinois (Homewood-Flossmoor), senior Cameron Jones of Holland, Michigan (Black River), sophomore Tucker Gibbons of Fowlerville, Michigan (Fowlerville), and Salomon were seventh in 3:24.54.
Izenbart also tied for eighth in the high jump after clearing 1.89 meters (6 feet, 2 ¼ inches).
The Flying Dutchmen's next meet is Friday-Saturday, April 28-29 at the Calvin Invitational.
