Men's Golf Fourth Out Of 21 Teams After Illinois Wesleyan Invite Opening Round

Hope College's Josh Gibson is three shots off the lead at the 36-hole Illinois Wesleyan Invitational after carding a 1-under-par 71 at Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Illinois.

The two-day tournament concludes on Saturday with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Central.

Gibson, pictured, trails first-round leader Daniel Cole of Illinois Wesleyan in the 111-golfer field. The sophomore from Grandville, Michigan (Grandville) is one of four golfers at 1-under.

The 18th-ranked Flying Dutchmen finished the opening day with a team score of 297. They are behind No. 15 Illinois Wesleyan (290), Carthage, Wisconsin (293) and Millikin, Illinois (296) in the 21-team field.

Senior Winton Munch of Traverse City, Michigan (Central) fired a 73 and is tied for 11th place.

Sophomore Andrew Goble of Brighton, Michigan (Brighton) shot a 76 and is tied for 32nd.

He was one stroke ahead of two teammates: junior Kade Hoeksema of Byron Center, Michigan (South Christian) and sophomore Ben Kramer of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake).
