Hope College's Benjamin Pederson raced to a school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the North Central College Dr. Keeler Invitational in Naperville, Illinois.
The junior from Mount Prospect, Illinois (Prospect HS) clocked a seventh-place time of 9 minutes, 7.65 seconds.
Pederson, pictured, passed the old mark of 9:08.89 set in 2008 by Rob Bailey.
Pederson finished 17 seconds faster than his seed time at the non-scoring meet.
Senior Nicholas Salomon of Troy, Michigan (Detroit Jesuit) posted the sixth-fastest time in NCAA Division III in the 800 meters.
Salomon finished third in 1:50.51. He within a second of Matt Molinaro of Ohio Northern (1:49.12) and Deko Ricketts of Washington-St. Louis (1:49.37).
