Hope College's Emily Hamilton has been chosen as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.

The senior from Naperville, Illinois (Naperville North HS) bettered her own school record in the indoor 5,000 meters at the Grand Valley State University Holiday Open on Friday.

Hamilton clocked a time 17 minutes, 35.89 seconds to finish 21st in the event that featured competitors from all three NCAA divisions and NAIA.

She recorded the fastest time among Division III entrants and the sixth-fastest in the nation.

Hamilton's time when converted from the oversized track is 17:44.02 in the Hope record books.

This is Hamilton's first MIAA Indoor Track Athlete of the Week award.
