Men's Track & Field Wins Windy City Invitational

Justin Freeman and Brandon Wolliston both recorded first-place finishes to lead the Hope College men's track & field team to a first-place team effort at the University of Chicago Windy City Invitational on Saturday.

The Flying Dutchmen recorded a score of 124.5 points to top the 12-team field. They finished 13 points ahead of runner-up Chicago.

Wolliston, a senior from Remus, Michigan (Chippewa Hills HS), pictured at right, clocked a 400-meter run of 50.38 seconds. Solberg, a freshman from Traverse City, Michigan (Central), was runner-up at 51.84.

Freeman, a junior from Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa), pictured at left, led a 1-2-3 finish in the 60 meters with a run of 7.05 seconds.

Sophomore Emmanuel Harinda came in second at 7.11, while sophomore Korey Derr was third at 7.17.

Sophomore Joshua Izenbart of Glenwood, Illinois (Homewood Flossmoor) took second in both the heptathlon with 4,305 points and the high jump with a leap of 2.02 meters (6-7).

Three Hope high jumpers scored: sophomore Brandon Maurice in third at 1.97 meters (6-5) and freshman Jared Lowe in eighth at 1.87 meters (6-2).

Izenbart also was runner-up in the heptathlon with 4,305 points.

Hope took second in the distance medley relay. Senior Andrew Kalthoff, freshman Zackary Murphy, freshman Dominic Hentemann, and sophomore Joseph Dawson at 11:17.64.

Junior Collin Thomas placed third in the 800 meters with a run of 2:00.67.

Senior Jacob Jansen finished third in the 3,000 meters at 9:05.05.

Junior Chase Gaca came in fourth in the weight throw with a loss of 14.91 meters (48-10).

Four Hope long jumpers scores: junior Tucker GIbbons in fourth at 6.31 meters (20-8), sophomore Korey Derr in sixth at 6.02 meters (19-8), Maurice in seventh at 5.89 meters (19-4), and senior William Henkel in eighth at 5.79 meters (19-0).

Senior Matt Ruff and Solberg placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 200 meters with times of 23.47 seconds.

Freshman Jacob Moore came in sixth in the 60-meter hurdles at 9.48 seconds.

Senior Benjamin Pederson took sixth in the 1-mile run at 4:27.67.

Gibbons finished sixth in the triple jump at 12.55 meters (41-2).

Senior Ryan Holman placed eighth in the 5,000 meters with a run of 16:15.46.

Pole vaulter Barry Bait was eighth at 3.96 meters (13 feet).
