Katie Singer helped the Hope College softball team split its season-opening doubleheader at Hanover, Indiana on Saturday.
The senior from Howell, Michigan (Hartland HS), pictured, pitched the Flying Dutch to a 6-1 victory in Game 2 by scattering six hits, two strikeouts, and one walk during a complete-game effort.
Hope supported Singer with a three-run second inning that enabled the Flying Dutch to rebound from a 6-4 loss in the opener.
Hope seized command of the second game by taking a 4-0 lead.
Leftfielder Jo Cook of Birch Run, Michigan (Birch Run) opened the second-inning rally with an RBI single.
Rightfielder Amanda Diaz of Mundelein, Illinois (Mundelein) knocked in Cook with a groundout.
Centerfielder Noelle Jackson of Grand Blanc, Michigan (Grand Blanc) capped the rally with an RBI single to plate first baseman Shay Pinhey of Ann Arbor, Michigan (Pioneer).
Pinhey topped the Flying Dutch by going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
In Game 1, catcher Hayley Reitsma of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Grand Rapids Christian) led Hope with a two-run single.
Hanover (8-4) took control with three-run second and fourth innings for a 6-0 lead.
