The Hope College women's golf team opened the season in unique fashion on Friday by playing a modified match play format against Albion College.
The nonleague match featuring eight scoring golfers on each team was decided by one point as the Flying Dutch were edged 72.5-71.5 at The Ravines Golf Club in Saugatuck. Each pairing was worth 18 points.
Hope outscored Albion in five of the flights.
Sophomore Abigail Meder of Lansing, Michigan (Catholic Central) topped Madison Kroetsch 9.5-8.5.
Senior Ariana Stewart of Kalamazoo, Michigan (Comstock) downed Anika Krishman 10-8.
Freshman Deanna DeLeeuw of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville) beat Bailey Downs 12.5-5.5.
Freshman Megan Radaz of Alma, Michigan (Alma) outscored Kiley Klynn 11.5-.6.5.
Freshman Lexi Miller of Bremen, Indiana (Bremen) won 12.5-5.5 against Sedona Ramanthan.
In other action, sophomore Jordyn Rioux of Farmington, Michigan (Livonia Ladywood) fell to Megan Moco 10-8, freshman Megan Jenkinson of Traverse City, Michigan (West) lost to Grace Hoffman 13.5-4.5, and freshman Samantha Karwowicz of Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan (South) fell to Sydney Cohn 15-3.
