Women's Track & Field Runner-Up in Two Outdoor Events At Rhodes Invitational

Hope College's Emily Hamilton and Kelly Peregrine ran with the front of the pack at the 30-team Rhodes College Invitational this weekend in Memphis, Tennessee.

The two teammates recorded the Flying Dutch's top performances during the first outdoor track & field meet of the spring. It was a non-scoring meet.

Hamilton finished second in the 10,000 meters. The senior from Naperville, Illinois (Naperville North HS) clocked a time of 36 minutes, 54.84 seconds.

Hope's 4x800 relay of junior Sally Hansma of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Jenison), senior Ellie Best of Portage, Michigan (Portage Central), sophomore Jacinda Cole of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa) and junior Kelly Peregrine of Traverse City, Michigan (Central) was runner-up with a run of 9:52.15.

Peregrine took fourth in the 1-mile run by posting a time of 5:15.99. Cole was eighth in 5:20.70.

Hansma came in sixth in the 800 meters with a run of 2:21.83.

Junior Mitchel Achien'g of Nairobi, Kenya (Kisumu) finished sixth in the triple jump. She had a leap of 10.81 meters (35-5 ¾). She was ninth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.01.

Junior Alicia Bostwick of Zionsville, Indiana (Zionsville) and freshman Lauryn Thompson of Portage, Michigan (Kalamazoo Hackett Catholic) placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 3,000 steeplechase with runs of 12:16.75 and 12:23.70.

Hope's 4x400 relay of junior Nicole Kruithof of Holland, Michigan (South Christian), senior Allison VanderStoep of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa), Hansma and junior Chelsea Miskelley of Holland, Michigan (Black River) took seventh with a time of 4:10.94.

Freshman Jenna Breuker of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Forest Hills Eastern) recorded an eighth-place discus throw of 38.97 meters (127-10).

The Flying Dutch's next meet is the Emory College (Georgia) Invitational on Friday-Saturday, March 22-23.
