Women's Track & Field In Third Place After Emory Invitational's First Day

The Hope College women's outdoor track & field team scored in five events during the opening day of the Emory College Invitational on Friday in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Flying Dutch are in third place out of 22 teams with 22 points.

Hope finished third in the 4x800 relay. Freshman Erin Kloostra of Kalamazoo, Michigan (Loy Norrix), junior Emily Jackson of Grayling, Michigan (Grayling), senior Avery Lowe of North Muskegon, Michigan (North Muskegon) and junior Natalie Meyer of Plainfield, Illinois (Plainfield South) clocked a time of 10 minutes, 33.09 seconds.

The Flying Dutch placed fourth in the distance medley relay. Kloostra, Meyer, Jackson and junior Breanna VanLaan of Lowell, Michigan (Lowell) recorded a time of 14:17.74.

In the 3,000 steeplechase, junior Hannah Kenny of Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven), pictured, recorded a fifth-place run of 12:03.39. Senior Abby Couwenhoven of Mokema, Illinois (Lincoln Way East) was seventh with a time of 12:09.44.

Junior Hailey Pickelheimer of Powell, Ohio (Olentangy Liberty) came in sixth in the 400 hurdles by posting a run of 1:07.28.

In the javelin, sophomore Emily Tyner of Ann Arbor, Michigan (Skyline) finished seventh with a toss of 31.78 meters.

The two-day Emory Invitational resumes on Saturday, March 23 at 10 a.m.
