Hope College's Emily Hamilton went for a long but fast fun in her hometown.
The senior from Naperville, Illinois (Naperville North HS) clocked a season-best effort in the 10,000 meters at the North Central College Gregory Invitational. The two-day event concluded on Thursday.
Hamilton, pictured left, won the race with a time of 36 minutes, 45.16 seconds. It is the 27th fastest time in NCAA Division III this season.
The Gregory Invitational was the final meet before the entrants for the Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships are announced on Saturday.
Junior Mitchel Achien'g of Nairobi, Kenya (Kisumu) placed sixth in the heptathlon with 4,124 points. It is the 44th highest total in Division III this season.
Achien'g, pictured right, finished runner-up in the 200-meter run by posting a time of 26.28 seconds for 773 points.
In the 100-meter hurdles, Achien'g took third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.36 seconds for 795 points.
In the shot put, Achien'g recorded a sixth-place heave of 9.86 meters (32 feet, 4 ¼ inches) for 520 points.
In the long jump, Achien'g produced a seventh-place leap of 4.94 meters (16-2 ½) for 543 points.
In the 800 meters, Achien'g ran a ninth-place time of 2.41.66 seconds for 554 points.
In the javelin, Achien'g finished with a 10th-place throw of 26.81 meters (87-11) for 416 points.
In the high jump, Achien'g had a 12th-place effort by clearing 1.41 meters (4-7 ½) for 523 points.
