Hope College cross country runner Ana Tucker outkicked an NCAA Division III All-American at the finish line to win the Wheaton College (Illinois) Gil Dodds Invitational on Saturday.
The freshman from Midland, Michigan (H.H. Dow HS) clocked a winning 6K time of 22 minutes, 22.8 seconds in a field of 171 runners.
Tucker edged Wheaton All-American and senior Aryn Embretson by 1.5 seconds. Embertson was runner-up.
Hope, ranked No. 23 in the USTFCCCA poll, placed third out of 11 teams with 71 points. Fourth-ranked University of Chicago came in first with 34 points. Top-ranked Washington-St. Louis finished second with 49 points.
Four Flying Dutch runners were in the Top 20.
Senior Chelsea Miskelley of Holland, Michigan (Black River) took 15th with a time of 23:02.5.
Freshman Ellie Jankowski of Granger, Indiana (Penn) posted a 17th-place run of 23.07.0.
Senior Anna Frazee of Watervliet, Michigan (Home School) recorded an 18th-place effort of 23:11.3.
Senior Sally Hansma of Jenison, Michigan (Jenison) completed Hope's point total with a 25th-place time of 23.27.8.
Junior Jacinda Cole of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa) finished 29th with a run of 23.34.8.
Senior Rebecca Duran of Palatine, Illinois (Palatine) was 37th after clocking a time of 23.46.1
Hope's next meet is the Lansing Community College Invitational on Friday, October 4 at 3 p.m.
