Men's Golf Falls to Seventh Place at Carthage Fall Classic

Daniel Settecerri posing for a portrait The Hope College men's golf team finished in seventh place overall at the Carthage (Wis.) Fall Classic on Saturday. After shooting a team score of 300 on Friday, good for a tie for fourth place, the Flying Dutchmen shot a 301 on Saturday, slipping them three slots in the final standings with 601. 

Defending national champion Illinois Wesleyan won the event with a 10-under 558 (281-277).

Both senior Daniel Settecerri of Bloomfield Hills (Bloomfield Hills HS), pictured right, and freshman Jack Crawford of Carmel, Ind. (Carmel HS) finished in a tie for 15th place with a total score of 147. Settecerri fired rounds of 76-71 while Crawford had scores of 72-75.

Senior Noah Weigle of Grandville (Grandville HS) shot rounds of 76-77 (153) for a tie for 44th place; junior Luke Tapani of Wayzata, Minn. (Providence Academy) had rounds of 76-78 (154), tying him for 48th place; and, freshman Seth Almquist of Minnepolis, Minn. (Wayzata HS) tied for 73rd place with pair of 79s (158).

A total of 21 teams and 105 players participated in the event.

Coach Scott Lokers' Flying Dutchmen open league play on Monday, September 9 with the first MIAA Jamboree on their home course at Wuskowhan Players Club. Tee time is 1 p.m.
