Women's Tennis Loses Showdown with No. 7 Carnegie Mellon

Claire Hallock won a three-set thriller at No. 2 singles for the Hope College women's tennis team during a nationally-ranked showdown at Carnegie Mellon University (Pennsylvania).

The No. 28-ranked Flying Dutch lost to their seventh-ranked foe, 8-1, in non-league play.

Hallock, a senior from Lakeland, Florida (Harrison Center HS), defeated Carnegie Mellon's Vinaya Rao 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) at No. 2 singles.

Hope dropped a second singles match that went three sets and two doubles matches that needed a tiebreaker.

At No. 4 singles, sophomore Sydney Jackson of Fort Wayne, Indiana (Carroll) lost to Carnegie Mellon's Lindy Cornwall 7-5, 0-6, 1-0 (10-6).

At No. 1 doubles, Hallock and partner Amanda Bandrowski of Traverse City, Michigan (St. Francis) fell to Courtney Ollis and Danna Taylor 8-7 (4).

At No. 2 doubles, Jackson and junior Leah Newhof of Caledonia, Michigan (Grand Rapids South Christian) were defeated by Cornwall and Bin Zheng, 8-7 (4).

Hope (1-1 overall) returns to action on Friday, February 14 at home against No. 29 Case Western Reserve University (Ohio).
