The Hope College ice hockey team began its quest for an American Collegiate Hockey Association championship repeat with two victories at Miami (Ohio) University over the weekend.
The Flying Dutchmen won, 6-2, on Friday, and, 3-2 in overtime, on Saturday. Senior forward Max Mones led Hope during the weekend with four points on one goal and three assists.
On Saturday, forward Jake Adams, pictured left, scored the game-winner unassisted on the power play 56 seconds into overtime. The sophomore tied the score at 2-2 with 4:16 remaining in the second period. Junior forward Mason Weiss and sophomore defenseman Ashton Bol registered assists.
Freshman goalie Maclane Schick made 22 saves.
On Friday, forward Allan Hirsch put Hope ahead for good, 3-2, with 1:59 remaining in the second period. The senior was one of six different goal scorers for the Flying Dutchmen.
Senior goalie Lukas Schut made 27 saves.
Hope's next ACHA series is Friday-Saturday, Oct. 15-16 against Saginaw Valley State University. The Flying Dutchmen hosts Saginaw Valley on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Griff's IceHouse West.
