Volleyball Puts Four on AVCA All-Region Teams

Four Hope College volleyball teammates have been selected to the American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III All-Region Team for their performances this season.

Seniors McKenna Otto and Tracy Westra claimed all-region honors for the Michigan intercollegiate Athletic Association champion Flying Dutch along with sophomore Maggie Wehrmeyer. Senior Ana Grunewald received an honorable-mention distinction.

All four helped the Flying Dutch win an Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association regular-season championship and reach the NCAA Division III regional finals before finishing with a 25-5 record.

This is the third time Otto has been selected as an AVCA All-Region member. The Wheaton, Illinois native (Wheaton North HS) and middle hitter finished the season with a team-leading 356 kills with a .273 hitting percentage in 30 matches, 238 total digs, and 77 total blocks for the orange and blue.

The biomedical/bioelectrical engineering major was also named All-MIAA First Team.

Westra (Clarendon Hills, Illinois / Timothy Christian) ended her season with career-highs in assists with 1,183, digs with 259, and kills with 140.

The environmental engineering major also was named as MIAA MVP for the first time.

Wehrmeyer (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa), is receiving this honor for the first time in her career.

A libero, Wehrmeyer finished the season with 542 digs and 90 assists..She was selected as the MIAA's Defensive Player of the Year and to the All-MIAA First Team.

Grunewald (Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Grand Rapids) received an honorable mention for AVCA All-Region after tallying 313 kills and 297 digs in 29 matches.

The outside hitter and biomedical/bioelectrical engineering major was chosen to the All-MIAA Second Team.
