Abby Koops would come away with a second-place finish in diving, and Emma Schaefer grabbed a fourth-place finish during the 17th-ranked Hope College women's swim and dive team's first day at the D3 Shootout at the University of Chicago on Friday, and Saturday brought a second-place dive finish from Cam Hamilton at the Kalamazoo Quad meet at Kalamazoo College. The orange and blue finished 3rd overall at the Kalamazoo Quad and 6th in the D3 Shootout.
Schaefer (DeWitt, Michigan / St. Johns HS) clocked a 4:36.78 time in the 400 IM race in her only individual race.
Koops (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Northern) with her second-place finish in the 1-meter dive came away with 219.55 score.
Sophomore Delaney Wesolek, pictured right, of Bay City, Michigan (John Glenn) took fifth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.56.
Sara Kraus of Rockford, Michigan (Rockford) grabbed sixth place in the 100 breaststroke with a finish time of 1:05.62, and took home seventh in the 200-yard freestyle after finishing at 1:56.56.
The freshman from Grand Rapids, Michigan (Catholic Central), Lauren Ryle, finished with a time of 24.76 in the 50-yard freestyle.
Alyssa Kerkman of South Bend, Indiana (Saint Joseph) would grab seventh place in the 200-yard butterfly after clocking a time of 2:17.60.
The Hope College women's swimmers competed in two relays during the first day of events, the 200-yard relay and the 800-yard relay, finishing in 5th place and 6th place respectively. Wesolek, Kraus, Kerkman and Ryle were the members of the 200-yard medley relay, while Wesolek, Schaefer, Katie Weedon and Grace Wesley competed in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
At the Kalamazoo Quad on Friday, the Flying Dutchmen finished 6th in the 200-yard freestyle relay with Maggie Hoerner, Sydney Randall, Maddy O'Donnell, and Rachel Gamm competing.
Sophomore Lindsey Case clocked a time of 5:29.83 in the 500-yard freestyle event. Case also competed in the 1650-yard freestyle, finishing 3rd at 18:51.40.
A 400-yard medley relay team of Norah Martin, Aubrey East, Gamm and Hoerner took home 4th with a time of 4:13.11.
Saturday's events at the Kalamazoo Quad had the 400-yard IM swimmer, Jess Estabrook clock a time of 4:56.77 to finish in 4th place.
Case (Plymouth, Michigan / Mercy) would grab the five spot in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:59.76.
Maddie Kievit (Grandville, Michigan / Grandville) snagged 5th place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:14.54.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Norah Martin would come in 5th place after posting a time of 1:02.50.
The Hope College divers came out strong as Cameron Hamilton (Libertyville, Illinois / Libertyville) finished 2nd in the 3 meter dive, and 4th in the 1 meter dive. Sophomore Sophia Farbarzhevich placed 6th in both the 1 meter dive and the 3 meter dive, while Allie Graver (Grosse Ile, Michigan / Grosse Ile) finished 5th in the 3 meter dive with a score of 200.93.
Senior Aubrey East took home 5th in the 200-yard breaststroke after clocking a time of 2:37.72.
In four relays (400-yard medley, 200-yard medley, and the 400-yard freestyle, the Flying Dutchmen finished 4th twice (400 and 200 medley) and 5th (400-yard free).
The D3 Shootout Saturday events brought a 2nd place finish for Sara Kraus in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:05.49.
Koops would perform again in the 3 meter dive, coming away with 3rd place and a score of 188.60.
Freshman Katie Weedon took home 5th place in the 500-yard freestyle event with a time of 5:11.42.
Delaney Wesolek, Lauren Ryle, Madeline Tessin and Weedon competed in the 200-yard freestyle relay and finished 6th with a time of 1:39.28.
The Flying Dutchmen women's swim and dive team hosts Alma next at the Holland Aquatic Center on Saturday, November 13 beginning at 1 p.m.
