ACHA Hockey Ices Florida Gulf Coast; Remains Unbeaten in Pool Play at Nationals

The Hope College ice hockey team erupted after a scoreless first period to earn a 10-2 victory against Florida Gulf Coast University on Friday in the ACHA National Tournament at Patterson Ice Arena in Grand Rapids.

The top-ranked Flying Dutchmen (10-2-1 overall) remain the only unbeaten team in pool play with one game remaining. The top team in the pool advances to the national semifinals on Monday, April 19.

Hope skates against Adrian College on Saturday, April 17 at 9 p.m.

Against Florida Gulf Coast, the Flying Dutchmen scored five goals in each of the final two periods.

Hope took a 2-0 lead in a span of 1 minute, 48 seconds midway through the second period by scoring on special teams.

Kevin Healy struck for the first of his two goals when the Flying Dutchmen were on the power play. Mason Weiss registered the assists.

Soon after, Lucas Barber, pictured, recorded a short-handed, unassisted goal, and Hope was on its way to taking a 5-0 lead into the third period.

Nine different goal scorers powered the Flying Dutchmen.
