Once again, the Hope College women's tennis team has sweep an MIAA opponent, this time downing Trine University, 9-0, on Saturday in Angola, Indiana.
It was the the Flying Dutch's fifth win in a row. They remain undefeated in the league with a 4-0 record and are 7-2 overall.
Trine is 4-2 in the league and 12-4 overall.
Starting with doubles play, the No. 1 pair of junior Sydney Jackson and senior Leah Newhof prevailed 8-6; the No. 2 pair of freshman Annika Weeber and senior Bailey Chorney posted an 8-3 score; and at No. 3, junior Saydee Johns and sophomore Taylor Truman of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville) served up a shutout, 8-0.
Not a one set was lost in singles play by Hope.
At No. 1 singles, Jackson of Fort Wayne, Indiana (Carroll) defeated Trine's Ashley Spirrison, 6-2, 6-4.
At No. 2 singles, Newhof Caledonia, Michigan (Grand Rapids Christian) topped Trine's Jadyn Davis, 6-3, 6-0.
At No. 3 singles, Chorney of Waunakee, Wisconsin (Waunakee) posted a 7-6 (7-2), 6-0 victory against Trine's Eva Morales.
At No. 4 singles, Johns of Holland, Michigan (Holland HS) beat Trine's Ellie Cole, 6-0, 6-2.
At No. 5 singles, Weeber of Rockford, Michigan (Grand Rapids Christian) downed Trine's Trista Savage, 6-3, 6-1.
At No. 6 singles, sophomore Delanie Riebschleger of Rockford, Michigan (Rockford) recorded a 6-0, 6-2 victory against Trine's Camilla Lozier.
Hope plays next on Wednesday, April 21, hosting Saint Mary's College for a 4 p.m. match at the Etheridge Tennis Complex.
