Hope College's Bailey Chorney has been selected as this year's recipient of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Karen Caine Scholar-Athlete Award.

The annual scholar-athlete award, instituted by the MIAA in 2007, honors Karen Caine, former long-time women's tennis coach at Adrian College.

Chorney is the Flying Dutch's sixth honoree and third in a row.

On the court, Chorney went undefeated this season in MIAA matches, going 3-0 at No. 3 singles and 4-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Chorney received All-MIAA Second Team honors.

In the classroom, Chorney is pursuing a business and Spanish double major.

Head coach Bob Cawood said Chorney is the epitome of an NCAA Division III student-athlete.

"She gets herself involved with so many different things," Cawood said. "Her minor is organizational leadership, and you see that translate to all facets of her life. She's holding a 3.94 GPA. She is busy off the court with all of her volunteering. To be successful on the tennis court as well is something special."
