The Hope College men's outdoor track and field team finished MIAA Field Day as runner-up as junior Nick Hoffman earned a pair of league titles in the 800 and 1,500 meters.
The Flying Dutch scored 119.50 points to finish in second place to Trine University with 244 points. Albion College rounded out the top-three with 110.50 points.
"Scoring the meet, I thought we could finish anywhere from second to fifth," head coach Kevin Cole said. "They had an awesome meet. They exceeded their seedings all over the place. I'm super proud of them."
Hoffman (Holland, Michigan / Holland HS), the reigning MIAA indoor MVP, added two more titles to his resume at Friday's championship. The junior first ran a season-best time of 4 minutes, 00.83 seconds in the 1,500 meters to take the crown.
After qualifying in second place during the 800-meter preliminaries on Friday, Hoffman ran more than 1.5 seconds faster in the finals to cross the finish line ahead of the field in 1:56.65. With the victory, Hoffman is now a four-time champion this season, having won the 1-mile and 3,000 meters at the indoor championships in February.

Chris Stamatopoulos (Wheaton, Illinois / Wheaton-Warrenville South) added to Hope's champion tally with a first-place performance in the javelin, extending his career-best distance in the process to 44.49 meters (145 feet-11½ inches).
The Flying Dutchmen put two on the podium in the 400-meter hurdles. Nathan Woolum (Mattawan, Michigan / Mattawan) landed as runner-up champion after stopping the clock at the 56.61 mark. David McHugh (Whitehall, Michigan / Reeths Puffer) followed closely in third with a final time of 57.07.
Stamatopoulos added three more points to the team total, placing sixth in the event.

Dan Campbell (Brighton, Michigan / Brighton) earned All-MIAA honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, placing third behind a time of 9:42.97.
In the high jump, Jared Lowe (Cincinnati, Ohio / Wyoming) cleared a height of 1.85 meters (6-¾) to land in a tie for third place.
The 4x400 meter relay team of McHugh, Drew Dow (Bridgman, Michigan/Bridgman), Woolum and Nathan Trumble (Granger, Indiana / Trinity School At Greenlawn) posted a second-place finish. The quartet combined for a time of 3:22.51 – the fastest on Hope's 2021 performance list.
Finishing just off the podium, Eli Meder (Williamston, Michigan / Lansing Catholic) placed fourth in the 800 meters, while McHugh landed in the same spot in the standings in the triple jump.

- 1,500 meters – Zackary Murphy (Coldwater, Michigan / Coldwater), seventh, 4:12.69
- 3,000-meter steeplechase – Jacob Kelley (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford), sixth, 10:10.66
- 5,000 meters – Luke Shoemaker (Elkhart, Indiana / Concord), sixth, 15:38.24; Evan Bleitz (Milan, Michigan / Saline), eighth, 15:39.71
