Men's Basketball Claims NABC Team Academic Excellence and Honors Court Awards

by Alan Babbitt

Seven Hope College men's basketball team student-athletes have been selected to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court for the 2020-21 season.

Seniors Danny Beckman, Ryan Gamm, Preston Granger, Sam Vree, and Calvin Hackert join juniors Jeff Bikus and Tyler George in representing the Flying Dutchmen.

Hope also claimed the NABC's Team Academic Excellence Award.

"It takes tremendous effort, organization, and sacrifice to maintain the academic status that these men have," head coach Greg Mitchell said. "I'm incredibly proud of their ability to focus and prioritize their time while collectively contributing to the success of our team."

Each spring, the National Association of Basketball Coaches recognizes men's collegiate basketball student-athletes and teams who excelled in academics during the previous season.

In order to receive the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, a program must achieve a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better for the previous season.

The NABC Honors Court celebrates the talents and gifts that these men possess off the court, and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom. In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria. The qualifications are as follows:

  • Academically a junior or senior and a varsity player.

  • Cumulative G.P.A. of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the academic year.

  • Students must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution.

  • Member of an NCAA Division I, II, III, or NAIA institution with a full-time NABC member coach.
