The Hope College men's golf team shot its lowest round of the season. Logan DeWitt (pictured) did, too.
But in one of the most tightly contested Jamborees in recent memory, the Flying Dutchmen finished in third place at Zollner Golf Course in Angola, Indiana on Saturday. Host Trine University shot a team total of 288 to win the day; Calvin was second with 289; and, Hope, a 290.
After two MIAA Jamborees, Hope remains in first in the league standings by eight strokes. The Flying Dutchmen have a total of 585 strokes while Trine and Calvin are tied for second with 593.
"I was really pleased with our depth today," said head coach Scott Lokers. "We had a couple guys a bit disappointed with their scoring, but our depth carried us today. It's going to be close competition the next four (league) rounds. And that's good. That makes it interesting."
DeWitt's two-under 69 is a career-low for the sophomore from Zeeland, Michigan (Holland Christian). His Saturday round is one of 24 sub-70 rounds in Hope men's golf history.
"Logan had a really strong round. Everything was going well for him today,"Lokers added. "He putted well, he kept the ball in play, he had really good chances. Just all-around great play by him."
