The top-ranked Hope College ice hockey team gave head coach Chris Van Timmeren his 500th career victory with a 12-0 home-ice victory against Western Michigan University on Friday in American Collegiate Hockey Association play at Griff's IceHouse West.
On Saturday, the Flying Dutchmen won the second game of the series, 12-1, at Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo.
Hope improved its record to 19-0 overalll.
In his 22nd season as head coach, Van Timmeren has a career record of 501-129-14-5-18 leading the Flying Dutchmen, his alma mater.
On Friday, Hope jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first period. Niko Stamas registered a game-high three assists. Four Flying Dutchmen each had one goal and two assists: Kevin Healy, Luke McKinch, Max Mones, and Mickey VanAntwerp.
On Saturday, Hope skated to a 3-0 lead in the first period. Mones and Ethan Pinto each scored twice.
Hope returns to the ice on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 21-22, with a home-and-home series against Grand Valley State University.
