Four first-place efforts, including two in throws and two in running events, powered the Hope College indoor women's track and field team to a second-place finish at the Aquinas College John Flaminio Classic on Friday.
The Flying Dutch totaled 126.5 points. Aquinas won the meet with 179.5 points.
Junior Amelia Bont (Chesterfield, Michigan / Anchor Bay HS) recorded a winning weight throw of 13.26 meters (43 feet, 6 inches).
Freshman Greta Robrahn (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland East) won the shot put with a toss of 11.77 meters (38-7 1/2).
Junior Grace Behrens (Mishawaka, Indiana / Trinity School at Greenlawn) sprinted to a first-place, 400-meter time of 1 minute, 3.78 seconds.
Freshman Lauren Sysol (Mattawan, Michigan / Mattawan) recorded a winning 800-meter run of 2:41.56.
Behrens led a 1-2-3-4 Hope finish in the 400. Junior Julie Timperman (Lafayette, Indiana / Faith Christian) placed second at 1:05.42. Senior Hayley Scollard (Traverse City, Michigan / T.C. Central) took third at 1:07.07. Sysol was fourth at 1:07.63.
The Flying Dutch went 1-2 in the shot put. Bont was runner-up at 11.49 meters (37-8 ½)..
Hope clocked second- and third-place finishes in the 60-meter dash and the 200,
In the 60-meter dash, junior Helen Dodge (Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan / Grosse Pointe South) sprinted to a runner-up time of 8.21 seconds. Junior Amanda Lines (Naples, Florida / First Baptist Academy) was third at 8.29.
In the 200, Lines clocked a second-place run of 27.37. Dodge was third at 27.53.
In the high jump, freshman Allison Schram (Fenton, Michigan / Hartland) cleared 1.55 meters (5-1) for a runner-up finish.
In the long jump, senior Ellie Haan (McBain, Michigan / Northern Michigan Christian) posted a second-place effort of 4.56 meters (15-3 ¼)..
Hope's next meet is Friday, January 28, at the Grand Valley State University Bill Clinger Classic.
