Two first place finishes and five second place finishes framed the day for the No. 16-ranked Hope College women's swim and dive team in the 224-76 loss to the No. 9-ranked University of Chicago on Saturday at the Holland Aquatic Center.
Freshman Sara Kraus, pictured right, nabbed a first place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.88. Kraus, a native of Rockford, Michigan (Rockford HS), took home 2nd place in both the 200-yard backstroke (2:05.42) and the 400-yard IM (4:41.40).
Emma Schaefer (DeWitt, Michigan / Saint Johns) placed first for Hope College in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:40.62. Schaefer, a senior, took home second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:27.94) and 3rd place in the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.80).
The Flying Dutch secured second place in two more events against the University of Chicago. Madeline Tessin (Waxhaw, North Carolina / Marvin Ridge) clocked a time of 29.96 for second in the 50-yard freestyle, and the 200-yard freestyle medley finished with a time of 1:47.86. The 200-yard free medley was made up of Kraus, Schaefer, Tessin, and Rachel Gamm.
The Hope College women's swim and dive team's next meet is on Saturday, Jan. 29, at 1 p.m. when the Flying Dutch host Albion College at the Holland Aquatic Center.
