McHugh And Woolum Of Men's Track/Field Take Home First Place Finishes Among 13 Top Five Finishes At GVSU Tune Up Meet

The Hope College men's track and field team took to Grand Valley State University on Friday for the Grand Valley State University Tune Up meet. In the non-scoring meet with the opponents such as Grand Valley State University, Calvin University, and Davenport University, Hope College took home 22 top ten finishes, 13 top five placements, and 3 first place finishes.

Junior Nathan Woolum (Mattawan, Michigan / Mattawan HS) snagged first place in the 400 meter dash after clocking a time of 50.19. The 4x400n relay team of David McHugh, Drew Dow, Nathan Trumble, and Woolum would earn a first place victory as well for Hope with a time of 3:24.81. McHugh, pictured right, grabbed an individual first place finish in the triple jump event. The senior from Whitehall, Michigan (Reeths Puffer) recorded a distance of 12.70 meters (41'8") for his win.

Hope College had four top ten finishes in just the long jump. Junior Case VanderZee (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian) took the 2nd spot for the Flying Dutchmen with a height of 5.96 meters (19'6.75"). Eric Salisbury (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland West) recorded a 5.64 meter (18'6") jump to earn third place. Alex Daniels (5.27m / 17'3.5") and Nathan Colbrunn (5.21 m / 17'3.5") placed in 5th and 6th place, respectively.

Alex Daniels would grab a third place finish in the 60 meter dash after he clocked a time of 7.16. Trumble would also record a third place finish for Hope College in the 200 meter dash, finishing in 22.73.

Two more top five finishes came from the 60 meter hurdles event, where junior Jackson Player (San Antonio, Texas / Winston Churchill) would earn a third place finish with a time of 8.72. McHugh would grab the 5th spot for Hope after running a time of 9.31.

Junior Zach Elmore (Cadillac, Michigan / Cadillac) posted a fourth place finish in the pole vault. Elmore soared to a 4.30 meter (14'1.25") vault.
