The Hope women's diving squad is officially sending freshman Abby Koops to the NCAA DIII Championships next month.
Abby Koops, a freshman from Grand Rapids, Michigan (Forest Hills Northern HS), and the MIAA Women's Most Valuable Diver has qualified to head to the NCAA DIII Championships after two top ten finishes at Regionals.
Koops, who swept her competition in the 1-meter and 3-meter board at the MIAA Championships, took home fifth place in the 1-meter dive and 7th in the 3-meter dive at Regionals.
"It was exciting for Abby to go and compete against some of the best in the country this weekend and hold her own. She dove within herself and competed. We are very proud of her and excited to see what the future holds for her," said head coach Jake Taber
Sophomore Sophia Farbarzhevich grabbed 16th place in the 1-meter competition, and the Grand Rapids, Michigan (Forest Hills Northern) native earned a 12th place finish in the 3-meter dive.
The Hope College men's divers, sophomore Ewan Tiongson and senior Kamaron Wilcox, also competed in the Regionals competition. Tiongson (Portage, Michigan / Portage Northern) took home 15th place in the 3-meter die, and 23rd in the 1-meter. Wilcox (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Central) completed the 3-meter dive in 20th place, and 28th in the 1-meter dive.
The NCAA DIII Championships will be held Wednesday-Saturday, March 16-19, at the Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis Natatorium.
