The Hope College women's swimming and diving team's 200-yard free relay finished 19th at the NCAA Division III Championships on Wednesday in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Sophomore Madeline Tessin, freshman Sara Kraus, sophomore Delaney Wesolek, and senior Emma Schaefer swam a time of 1 minute, 35.36 seconds during preliminaries, as well as in the finals, placing 19th in both heats.
Tessin (Waxhaw, North Carolina / Marvin Ridge HS) clocked a 50-yard backstroke split of 24.18.
Kraus (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) swam a 50-yard breaststroke time of 23.63.
Wesolek (Bay City, Michigan / John Glenn) recorded a 50-yard butterfly split of 23.76.
Schaefer (DeWitt, Michigan / Saint Johns) finished with a 50-yard freestyle time of 23.79 for Hope College.
Freshman Abby Koops competed in the 1-meter dive, and finished 22nd in the NCAA Division III Championship finals with a score of 358.40.
A second relay team consisting of Kraus, Schaefer, Wesolek and junior Alyssa Kerkman (South Bend, Indiana / Saint Joseph) swam to 17th place in the preliminaries. Kraus posted a time of 56.68, Schaefer recorded a split of 1:04.64, Kerkman clocked in at 57.04, and Wesolek anchored the team with a time of 52.37.
The four-day NCAA Championships at Indiana University Purdue University at Indianapolis continue on Friday, March 18, with preliminaries at 10 a.m.
