First match in Florida, first win in Florida. The Hope College women's tennis team snagged their first win in a five match stretch in the sunshine state with a 7-2 victory over Colorado College.
A doubles sweep with 8-2, 8-4 and 8-7 wins across No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 spots along with four singles wins propelled the Flying Dutch to their fourth victory this season.
Senior Sydney Jackson (Fort Wayne, Indiana / Carroll HS), pictured right, and freshman Sullivan Patel (Birmingham, Michigan / Wylie E. Groves) took home an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles, senior Saydee Johns (Holland, Michigan / Holland) and Taylor Truman (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) took down their opponent 8-4 at No. 2 doubles, and sophomore Annika Weeber (Rockford, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) and junior Delanie Reibschleger (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) completed the doubles sweep with a No. 3 doubles victory, 8-7.
No. 1 singles Jackson (6-4 /6 -3), No. 2 singles Patel (6-1 / 6-2), No. 3 singles Weeber (6-3 / 7-5) and freshman Alexi Lewis (Cedar, Michigan / Saint Francis) who took down her Colorado College opponent with three sets picked up the wins in the singles side of the match. Lewis' sets had a 6-0 and 10-6 victory as well as a 6-3 loss at No. 5 singles.
Hope College women's tennis moved to 4-4 this season and has their second match of their Florida trip on Monday, March 21 at 11:30 a.m. against Oglethorpe at the USTA National Tennis Center.
