The day was clean sweep for the Hope College women's tennis team in its first match of the season against an MIAA league member.
First match back from their Florida trip, the Flying Dutch took on Albion College on the road and tallied a dominating 9-0 win on Saturday.
At the No. 1 doubles spot, senior Sydney Jackson (Fort Wayne, Indiana / Carroll HS) and freshman Sullivan Patel (Birmingham, Michigan / Wylie E. Groves) hit their way to an 8-0 win. Both Jackson and Patel picked up wins in the singles matches as well, with Jackson taking home a 6-0/6-0 win at No. 1 singles, and Patel earning a 6-0/6-0 win at the No. 2 singles spot.
Saydee Johns and Taylor Truman (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) obtained the No. 2 doubles win over their Albion opponent, 8-2. Johns, a senior from Holland, Michigan (Holland), in the No. 4 singles slot collected another Hope College win, 6-2/6-2.
Finishing out the doubles matches, Annika Weeber (Rockford, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) and Delanie Riebschleger (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) achieved an 8-0 win for the Flying Dutch. Weeber and Riebschleger competed in the No. 3 and No. 6 singles matches as well, with Weeber collecting the 6-1 / 6-0 win at No. 3 and Reibschleger grabbing a 6-0/6-0 win at No. 6.
Freshman Alexi Lewis, a Cedar Springs, Michigan native (Saint Francis) came in at the No. 5 singles to earn her win at No. 5 singles, 6-1 / 6-1.
The Hope College women's tennis squad improves to 8-5 this season and to 1-0 in MIAA player with its win over Albion. The team returns to the court on Friday-Saturday, April 1-2, for the Midwest Invitational, both days beginning at 8 a.m.
