"The plan of this season is just to continue to get better, there's a lot of new faces on our court and we've got some room to grow from a standpoint of an offensive rhythm and flow, learning about each other's defensive capabilities and what we can do in order to put ourselves in the best spot to win," said head coach Becky Schmidt.
In the Flying Dutch's opening game on Saturday, it was a battle with Wittenberg University, in a four set loss for Hope. Wittenberg would complete the match in the fourth set with a second over .300 hitting percentage set after Hope picked up a win in set three as they tried to begin their comeback, but the Tigers held tight to their play and kept things locked up.
Senior Charlotte Brecht (Grosse Pointe Farms / Grosse Pointe South) sank 11 kills, combining forces with outside hitter Post, who sent out 10 kills, to lead the charge. Fiebing tallied a team-high 22 digs for the Flying Dutch and Lee, a Plymouth, Michigan (Skyline) native had a team-high 36 assists against Wittenberg.
"We got pushed, and that was really, really good. We got pushed by every team that we competed against, and at this point in the season, I'm happy that we continue to battle through that adversity, you win some and you lose some, but they kept the fight."
Hope returns to the court on Wednesday, September 14, as they welcome University of Chicago to DeVos Fieldhouse at 7 p.m.
