Connor Vachon Shines, Men's Cross Country Places Third at Wheaton

Hope College cross country runner Connor Vachon made a run for the individual title at the Wheaton College (Ill.) Gil Dodds Invitational on Saturday.

The sophomore from Jenison, Michigan (Jenison HS) clocked a runner-up 8K time of 25 minutes, 14.4 seconds at St. Johns Farm Forest Preserve in Warrenville, Illinois.

Vachon finished only behind Washington University in St. Louis junior Cullen Capuano, who 25:10.5.

With 94 points, the Flying Dutchmen placed third in the 17-team event behind seventh-ranked Washington-St. Louis (33 points) and the 21st-ranked University of Chicago (44).

Hope put more scoring runners in the Top 25.

Freshman Owen Harries (Lexington, South Carolina / Lexington) took 20th at 26:19.2.

Senior Gabe DeYoung (Saegertown, Pennsylvania / Saegertown) recorded a 21st-place run of 26:19.6.

Freshman Carston Cole (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa) posted a 23rd-place time of 26:21.2.

Senior Anders Bogard (Mattawan, Michigan / Kalamazoo Christian) clocked a 28th-place run of 26:29.0.

Also in Hope's top seven were freshman Lucas Guidone (Chicago, Illinois / Home School in 29th at 26:29.1 and junior Dan Campbell (Brighton, Michigan / Brighton) in 37th at 26:53.5.

The Flying Dutchmen's next races are Saturday, October 1, in East Lansing, Michigan, and Louisville, Kentucky.
