The Hope College women's tennis team showed up in a big way at the Hope Fall Invitational, picking up 18 total wins on the day, 13 coming from singles wins, and five from doubles matches.Â
It was a Flying Dutch championship match in the A flight, as sophomore Sullivan Moran (Birmingham, Michigan / Wylie E. Groves HS) and freshman Amanda Lopykinski battled it out. Lopykinski (Lemont, Illinois / Lemont Township) came out on top in her first time in a Hope uniform, winning with scores of 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 in the final match to finish 5-0 on the weekend. Moran claimed a 4-1 record in the first showing for the orange and blue, defeating opponents from Trine University, and Aquinas College before reaching Lopykinski in the finals.Â
Sophomore Taylor Trojan (Homewood, Illinois / Marian Catholic), and freshman Noa Bowen (North Muskegon, Michigan / North Muskegon) each went 1-1 in the B flight. Freshman Isabelle Klanseck (Flushing, Michigan / Flint Powers Catholic) picked up a 2-1 record in the first weekend, after taking down Sophie Mulder of Calvin University 4-6, 7-6(3), and 10-4 before defeating Shania Arneson of Cornerstone University 6-0 and 6-1. Klanseck's run ended in the quarter-finals in a loss to Daniela Fernandez of Cornerstone University.Â
In the doubles flights, Lopykinski and Moran teamed up in flight A to go 3-1, and freshman Hope Rhoades (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian)Â and Bowen finished 1-1 in the B flight.Â
After earning a bye in the first round, the team of Lopykinski and Moran defeated teams from Calvin University (8-5), and Cornerstone University (8-6) en route to a runner-up title at Vande Poel-Heeringa Courts.Â
The Flying Dutch take on the ITA Central Region Tournament in St. Louis, MO for two days on Friday, September 30 and Saturday, October 1 to finish out fall play.Â
