Women's Swim/Dive Sits In Top 20 Nationally in 11 Events

The Hope College women's swimming and diving is ranked in the top 20 nationally in 11 different events.

The Flying Dutch — No. 12 in the latest College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America NCAA Division III national poll — are ranked among the nation's elite in seven individual events and four relays.

Sophomore Sara Kraus (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford HS) and freshman Laurel Wasiniak (Northville, Michigan / Northville) are recognized in three events apiece.

An exercise science major, Kraus is ranked third in the 100-yard backstroke with a swim of 55.00 seconds. She trails Sophia Verkleeren of Williams College (Mass.) at 54.78 and Olivia Smith of Kenyon College (Ohio) at 54.79.

In the 200 individual medley, Kraus stands fifth at 2:03.44. In the 200 backstroke, Kraus is eighth at 2:00.21.

Wasiniak sits seventh in the 200 freestyle at 1:50.63. 

In the 50 freestyle, Wasiniak ranks 12th at 23.55. In the 100 freestyle, Wasiniak is 14th at 51.32.

Sophomore Grace Gidley (Franklin, Michigan / Mercy) is ranked 11th in the 200 IM at 2:04.48.

Hope's top relay is 10th, where the 200 freestyle relay is ranked with a swim of 1:34.45.

The Flying Dutch stand 11th in the 400 medley relay after clocking a time of 3:48.71.

Hope is ranked 12th in both the 200 medley relay at 1:44.36 and the 400 freestyle relay at 3:29.44.

The Flying Dutch return to competition on Friday, Jan. 20, at 6 p.m. when they host Kalamazoo College and Olivet College for an MIAA meet at Holland Aquatic Center.
