Swimmers Sara Kraus and Greta Gidley Clock Top Swim/Dive Performances at No. 4 Chicago

Sophomore Sara Kraus and freshman Katie Hermann swept the top two spots in both backstroke events at fourth-ranked University of Chicago on Saturday.

The 12th-ranked Flying Dutch won three events total as the Maroons won the non-league meet, 175-119.

Kraus (Rockford, MIchigan / Rockford HS) clocked the fastest 100-yard backstroke swim of 57.45 seconds and the top 200 backstroke time of 2:04.13.

Hermann (Canton, Michigan / Mercy) was runner-up at 57.77 in the 100 and 2:05.33 in the 200.

Sophomore Greta Gidley (Franklin, Michigan / Mercy) led a 1-2-3 Hope finish in the 200 individual medley by posting a swim of 2:10.63. 

Freshman Ashlea Swingewood (Carmel, Indiana / Carmel) placed second at 2:14.62. Senior Alyssa Kerkman (South Bend, Indiana / St. Joseph) took third at 2:17.11.

The Flying Dutch finished runner-up in eight more events, including both relays.

Kraus led off a second-place, 200 medley relay with Gidley, Kerkman and freshman Bella Turner (Chelsea, Michigan / Chelsea) that recorded a swim of 1:49.37.

Wasiniak started a second-place 200 freestyle relay with junior Delaney Wesolek (Bay City, Michigan / John Glenn), Kraus and Turner that finished in 1:39.04.

Individually, Wasiniak also clocked a runner-up 50 free time of 24.38 and a second-place 200 free swim of 1:55.50.

Swingewood swam a second-place 500 free time of 5:15.46.

Sophomore Norah Martin (Middleton, Wisconsin / Middleton) placed runner-up in the 1,000 freestyle with a swim of 11:05.81.

Junior Maddy O'Donnell (Lincolnshire, Illinois / Stevenson) took second in the 200 breaststroke by clocking a time of 2:34.66.

Senior Allie Graver (Grosse Ile, Michigan / Grosse Ile) and junior Sophia Farbarzhevich (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Northern) tied for second on the 3-meter board with scores of 204.35 points.

Hope's next meet is Friday, Jan. 27, at 6 p.m. at No. 19 Calvin University.
