Freshman Sara Schermerhorn Sets Women's Indoor Track Record in the 200 Meters

Sara Schermerhorn quickly etched her name into the Hope College women's track and field record book.

The freshman from Traverse City, Michigan (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City West HS) set a Flying Dutch indoor record in the 200 meters on Friday at Grand Valley State University.

Schermerhorn eclipsed a 14-year-old mark by clocking a time of 25.89 seconds during the Bill Clinger Classic.

Nora Kuiper held the Hope record with a run of 26.04 seconds.

Hope's Track and Field Records

It was Schermerhorn's third collegiate 200-meter race.

"Sara is naturally fast but has worked really hard to improve already this year," head coach Kevin Cole said. "It's going to be fun watching what she accomplishes at Hope in her career.

Schermerhorn placed third in her race at GVSU.

Her time of 25.49 seconds converts to 25.89 seconds on a standard track.
