Men's Golf Wins MIAA's Final Fall Jamboree, Extends Overall Lead

The Hope College men's golf team stayed firmly in the driver's seat for the MIAA title chase on Wednesday.

Led by sophomore Liam Casey, the Flying Dutchmen fired a first-place 299 at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall and extended their overall lead to 16 strokes.

It was the final event of the fall for MIAA play. After 72 holes, Hope has a total of 1,179 strokes. Trine University is in second at 1,195. Calvin University is two strokes behind Trine.

The MIAA champion will be crowned in the spring after two more 18-hole rounds. The lowest cumulative score after 108 holes will receive the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III national championships.

Casey (Northville, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central HS) carded Hope's low round at The Medalist by recording a 1-under-par 71.

Casey shared medalist honors for the day with Trine's Mark Civanich.

The Flying Dutchmen finished four strokes ahead of Trine and Calvin at The Medalist, who each shot 303s.

Senior Logan DeWitt (Zeeland, Michigan / Holland Christian) and junior Will Robson (Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Grand Rapids) chipped in 75s for Hope.

Sophomore Patrick Michael (Carmel, Indiana / Carmel) and freshman Hank Roebuck (Ann Arbor, Michigan / Skyline) each shot 78s.

Junior Will Webb (Lake Forest, Illinois / Lake Forest) had an 80.

Hope concludes its fall season on Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 23-24, at the 36-hole NCAA Division III Region V Showcase at Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind.
