Hope College women's swimmers jumped back into competition on Friday and excelled at the annual MIAA Relays.
The Flying Dutch posted runner-up swims in six events during the non-scoring meet hosted by Calvin University. It was Hope's first meet in 22 days.
Freshman Avery Bills (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City West) led off three different relays that took second.
In the 200-yard backstroke relay, Bills joined senior Delaney Wesolek (Bay City, Michigan / John Glenn), junior Lauren Ryle (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Catholic Central) and freshman Emma Hartman (Mason, Ohio / Mason) for a runner-up swim of 1:51.30.
In the 400 individual medley relay, Bills teamed with freshman Madeline McGee (Ionia, Michigan / Ionia), freshman Anna Stolle (Hamilton, Indiana / Fishers Southeastern) and freshman Paige Potter (Lake Orion, Michigan / Lake Orion) for a second-place time of 4:10.51.
In the 200 freestyle relay, Bills partnered with junior Grace Wesley (Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan / Grosse Pointe North), Wesolek and McGee for a runner-up performance of 1:42.32.
The Flying Dutch also placed second in the 200 medley relay, 200 breaststroke and the 1,500 freestyle relay.

In the 200 breaststroke, sophomore Maggie Monroe (Eaton Rapids, Michigan / Eaton Rapids), Stolle, Turner and freshman Natalie Pitera (Livonia, Michigan / Stevenson) clocked a second-place swim of 2:13.90.
In the 1,500 freestyle relay, junior Greta Gidley (Franklin, Michigan / Mercy), Swingewood and freshman Sydney VanLente (Ada, Michigan / Forest Hills Central) recorded a runner-up time of 16:13.79.
The Flying Dutch posted a third-place swim in the 500 progressive relay and a fourth-place in the 200 butterfly relay.
In the 500 progressive relay, Ashley Gedded teamed with Swingewood, junior Katie Weedon (Whitinsville, Massachusetts / Whitinsville Christian) and Hermann for a third-place effort of 4:48.38.
In the 200 butterfly relay, VanLente, Bills, McGee and Pitera were fourth at 1:52.58.
Hope's next meet is Friday, Oct. 27, at 5 p.m. with an MIAA double-dual meet against Kalamazoo College and The University of Olivet at Kalamazoo.
