No. 10-Ranked Women's Swim/Dive Cruises Past Kalamazoo and Olivet

The 10th-ranked Hope College women's swimming and diving team made a big splash at the first MIAA triangular meet of the season on Friday.

The Flying Dutch cruised to a 178-51 victory at Kalamazoo College and a 180-29 victory against The University of Olivet during the meet.

The Flying Dutch clocked the top three performances in eight different events.

Junior Sara Kraus (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford HS) won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2 minutes, 8.69 seconds that's the sixth-fastest swim in NCAA Division III this season.

Freshman Anna Stolle (Fishers, Indiana / Hamilton Southeastern) took second at 2:11.96. Sophomore Ashlea Swingewood (Carmel, Indiana / Carmel) was third at 2:11.98.

In the 50 freestyle, senior Delaney Wesolek (Bay City, Michigan / John Glenn) took first with a swim of 25.28 seconds.

Freshman Madeline McGee (Ionia, Michigan / Ionia) took second at 25.72. Freshman Lillian Ryden (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian) was third at 26.20.

In the 100 freestyle, Wesolek sprinted to a winning time of 54.76 seconds. 

Junior Lauren Ryle (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Catholic Central) posted a runner-up effort of 55.30. Stolle was third at 56.12.

In the 200 freestyle, junior Grace Wesley (Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan / Grosse Pointe North) finished first by recording a swim of 1:59.90.

Sophomore Bella Turner (Chelsea, Michigan / Chelsea) placed second at 2:00.0. Freshman Sydney VanLente (Ada, Michigan / Forest Hills Central) was third at 2::01.50.

In the 1,000 freestyle, junior Norah Martin (Middleton, Wisconsin / Middleton) clocked a winning time of 11:10.27.

Freshman Natalie Pitera posted a runner-up swim of 11:29.73. Senior Lindsey Case (Plymouth, Michigan / Mercy) was third at 11:32.50.

In the 100 backstroke, freshman Paige Potter (Lake Orion, Michigan / Lake Orion) swam a winning time of 1:01.26.

Ryden placed second at 1:03.33. Martin was third at 1:03.52.

In diving, senior Cameron Hamilton (Libertyville, Illinois / Libertyville) swept the top spots by winning on the 1-meter board with a score of 232.05 points and the 3-meter board with a total of 220.28 points.

Junior Michaela Sander (Muskegon, Michigan / Mona Shores) finished runner-up by totaling 208.13 points on the 1-meter board and 217.05 points on the 3-meter board.

In 1-meter diving, freshman Laura Zupancic (Fort Collins, Colorado / Liberty Collins) took third with 198.90 points. In 3-meter diving, sophomore Miranda Smith (Ada, Michigan / Forest Hills Eastern) was third with 208.05 points.


In the 500 freestyle, Wesley recorded the fastest swim at 5:22.62.

In the 100 butterfly, VanLente clocked a first-place time of 1:01.54.

In the 100 breaststroke, freshman Dillon Horsley (Indianapolis, Indiana / North Central) won in 1::09.88.

The Flying Dutch took first in the 200 medley relay behind a swim of 1:50.11 from Kraus, Stole, VanLente and senior Madeline Tessin (Waxhaw, North Carolina / Marvin Ridge).

Hope's next meet is Friday-Saturday, Nov. 3-4, at the D3Shootout hosted by fifth-ranked University of Chicago.
