No. 11 Women's Swim/Dive Goes 1-2 in 3-Meter Diving, Takes Third at Kenyon Invite

A 1-2 finish in 3-meter diving highlighted the final day for the No. 11-ranked Hope College women's swimming and diving team at the Total Performance Invitational hosted by Kenyon College (Ohio) on Saturday.

Junior Abby Koops and senior Cameron Hamilton topped a field of 123 divers to help the Flying Dutch take third place at the eight-team, three-day event.

With 1,141.5 points, Hope finished only behind top-ranked Kenyon (2,672.5) points and NCAA Division II West Chester, Pa. (1,442.5).

The Flying Dutch edged fourth-place and No. 13-ranked Case Western Reserve, Ohio, by three points. No. 15 Carnegie Mellon, Pa., placed fifth with 1,082 points and was followed by No. 23 SUNY-Geneseo (549.5), NAIA Lindsey Wilson, Ky. (262) and John Carroll, Ohio (239.5).

Koops (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Northern HS) recorded a winning total of 426.75 points.

Hamilton (Libertyville, Illinois / Libertyville) was runner-up with 389.60 points.

Four other Hope divers scored in the event: senior Sophia Farbarzhevich (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Northern) in fourth with 360.20 points, junior Michaela Sander (Muskegon, Michigan / Mona Shores) in sixth with 353.95, sophomore Miranda Smith (Ada, Michigan / Forest Hills Eastern) in ninth at 345.00, and freshman Laura Zupancic (Fort Collins, Colorado / Liberty Common) in 13th with 158.85.

The Flying Dutch also clocked the second- and third-fastest swims in the 200-yard backstroke.

Kraus (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) touched the wall second at 2:00.26. Sophomore Katie Hermann (Canton, Michigan / Mercy) was third at 2:023.25.

In the 400 freestyle relay, junior Greta Gidley (Franklin, Michigan / Mercy), Kraus, junior Lauren Ryle (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Catholic Central), and sophomore Bella Turner (Chelsea, Michigan / Chelsea) clocked a sixth-place swim of 3:29.50.

Hope's next relay finished second as sophomore Ashlea Swingewood (Carmel, Indiana / Carmel), freshman Madeline McGee (Ionia, Michigan / Ionia), freshman Anna Stolle (Fishers, Indiana / Hamilton Southeastern) and senior Delaney Wesolek (Bay City, Michigan / John Glenn) posted a 12th-place time of 3:35.11.

In the 100 freestyle, Tuner finished ninth at 52.43. Ryle was 10th at 52.45.

In the 200 breaststroke, Stolle took ninth at 2:23.63. Freshman Dillon Horsley (Indianapolis, Indiana / North Central) was 19th at 2:26.79.

In the 100 butterfly, Gidley placed 10th at 2:08.78.

In the 1,650 freestyle, junior Norah Martin (Middleton, Wisconsin / Middleton) clocked an 18th-place swim of 18:11.28.

The meet was the final one of the semester for the Flying Dutch.

Hope's next meet is Saturday, Jan. 13, for swimmers at the Michigan-Illinois Quad hosted by Wheaton College (Ill.) and for divers at the Kalamazoo College Invite.
