Greta Gidley and Sara Kraus Clock Nation's Best Swims at D3Shootout

Hope College swimmers Greta Gidley and Sara Kraus delivered two of the fastest times in NCAA Division III this season on Friday during the D3 Shootout in Chicago.

Gidley (Franklin, Michigan / Mercy) raced to a 100-yard individual medley swim of 56.50 seconds to lead off Hope's meet-record, mixed 400-yard IM relay. 


It is believed to be the fourth fastest women's 100 IM in Division III history.


Kraus (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) sprinted to a winning time of 56.06 seconds in the women's 100 backstroke. Kraus was not far off her meet-record swim of 55.69 seconds at last year's D3Shootout.


The 10th-ranked Flying Dutch are in fifth place at the eight-team event with 191 points. Fifth-ranked University of Chicago leads with 237 points.


The two-day D3Shootout at the University of Chicago concludes on Saturday, Nov. 4, at 11:30 a.m. Central.


Hope also won the 200 medley relay. Sophomore Katie Hermann (Canton, Michigan / Mercy), Kraus, Gidley and sophomore Bella Turner (Chelsea, Michigan / Chelsea) posted a swim of 1:44.63.


Gidley placed runner-up in the 200 freestyle by touching the wall at 1:53.60. Junior Grace Wesley (Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan / Grosse Pointe North) was 15th at 2:00.79.


In the 1-meter diving, senior Sophia Farbarzhevich (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Northern) recorded a third-place total of 216.20 points.


In the 200 butterfly, sophomore Ashlea Swingewood (Carmel, Indiana / Carmel) took sixth with a swim of 2:12.38 seconds. Wesley was 14th at 2:17.07.


In the 400 individual medley, freshman Anna Stolle (Fishers, Indiana / Hamilton Southeastern) clocked a sixth-place time of 4:39.58. Swingewood was 12th at 4:36.39.


In the 100 breaststroke, Stolle placed seventh at 1:07.42. Turner was 13th at 1:07.73.


In the 50 free, Turner finished seventh at 24.47. Senior Delaney Wesolek (Bay City, Michigan / John Glenn) was 14th at 24.71.


In the 800 freestyle relay, Hermann, Swingewood, Wesolek and Wesley took seventh at 7:50.58.    


In the 100 back, Hermann finished 10th with a time of 58.07 seconds.


No. 19-ranked Trinity (Texas) is second with 212 points, six points ahead of No. 11 Pomona Pitzer (Calif.). No. 16 Washington University in St. Louis is in fourth with 197. No. 17 Swarthmore (Pa.) is in sixth with 170 points. No. 22 SUNY-Geneseo is seventh with 168.
