Thrower Emma Althouse, Sprinter Sara Schermerhorn Set School Records at Aquinas

Senior thrower Emma Althouse broke a Hope College women's indoor track and field record for the first time, while freshman sprinter Sara Schermerhorn set a new top mark for the third time on Friday at Aquinas College.

The 10-team meet featured student-athletes from four Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association schools and six from Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference schools.

Althouse (Ludington, Michigan / Ludington HS) recorded a fifth-place toss of 14.28 meters (46 feet, 10 ¼ inches) to surpass Jenna Breuker's 2020 indoor record of 13.84 (45-5).

Althouse's record throw did not surprise head coach Kevin Cole.

"Emma has been working hard to master the weight throw and has improved a lot this year," Cole said. "She has potential for some great throws this year."

Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / T.C. West) clocked a winning 200-meter time of 25.69 seconds that eclipsed her previous indoor record of 25.81.

The first-place effort was one of four for the split-squad Flying Dutch during the meet. Hope finished fourth with 65 points.

In the 4x400 relay, senior Julile Timperman (Lafayette, Indiana / Faith Christian), Sara Schermerhorn, senior Samantha Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / T.C. West), and junior Erin Moran (Arlington Heights, Illinois / John Hersey) recorded a run of 4:08.13 to win the event by 20 seconds.

In the 3,000 meters, sophomore Jane DeGroot (Northville, Michigan / Northville) posted a first-place time of 10:58.84.

In the shot put, sophomore Greta Robrahn (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland East) finished first with a toss of 12.50 meters (41-0 ¼).

The Flying Dutch also scored in six other events.

In the 800, junior Jessie Schamanek (Rochester, Michigan / Stoney Creek) placed third by clocking a run of 2:29.09.

In the 400 meters, Timperman raced to a sixth-place run of 1:02.60. Samantha Schermerhorn went 1:03.54 for seventh. Freshman Elisabeth Bonanni (Howell, Michigan / Howell) was eighth at 1:05.52.

In the 1 mile, freshman Anna Duesenberg (Rocky River, Ohio / Saint Joseph) clocked a sixth-place run 5:51.53.

Senior Helen Dodge (Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan / Grosse Pointe South) took fifth in the 200 with a sprint of 27.19 seconds and eighth in the long jump with a leap of 4.94 meters (16-2 ½).

In the triple jump, sophomore Allison Schram (Fenton, Michigan / Hartland) was eighth with a leap of 9.38 meters (30-9 ¼).
